A young painter who cannot liberate himself from the influence of past generations is digging his own grave. — Henri Matisse

LINEA documents how artists think, create, provoke, and inspire in posts written by artists. It began in 1997 as a print publication of the Art Students League of New York. Through art classes in New York City, the League is dedicated to sustaining the great tradition of training artists.
