The Artist as Collector

In the July/August issue of The Artist’s Magazine, Jerry Weiss writes about the how and why over the course of his career he has collected art by other artists. “Living with Art” (pdf here) includes images of works from Weiss’s collection by Harvey Dinnerstein (below), Deane G. Keller, Tom LoeppSusan MazerTom Root, Edmund F. Ward, Blanche Weiss and Morris Weiss (his parents), and many others. “The best reason to collect isn’t for the sport of it, nor for profit,” Weiss writes. “Each of these drawings and paintings speaks to the artist’s observations and aspirations, and each of them resonates with me for various and personal reasons.”
