I’ve worked in my studio on West 30th Street for over twenty years. It’s quiet and has high ceilings. The neighborhood does not feel entirely safe late at night. I work almost everyday—though not always in the studio—sometimes on as many as three our four paintings at once. Other times, I work doggedly on one piece. I am lucky enough to have a studio in Bridgehamptom where I spend my summers. It is attached to the house, and my dog and cat feel free to wander in and out as I’m painting. Sometimes, as you can see, Max likes to watch from above.
