My studio is in a huge warehouse in Dumbo, Brooklyn, with splendid views. I share the space with five other artists. I’ve been living in New York almost four years now, and discovered the area from other groups of artists who worked there. Dumbo is impressive because it’s a great spot to appreciate the Manhattan skyline. The neighborhood is situated under the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. It feels like living in a urban fiction with all the noise and big structures over the buildings. I love the area’s coffee places and parks. The only drawback is the subway connection: sometimes the train doesn’t run.
 

After my morning classes at the Art Students League, I arrive at the studio and work from noon or 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. every weekday and sometimes on the weekend. I work near artists from Israel, France, and Spain. The Spanish artist, who is a good friend, is a talented painter, very active in the art world and exhibiting in many venues.

For inspiration I like to walk through galleries on the weekend to see what’s going on. Anywhere in the city I can see different cultures and kinds of art. I’ll sometimes visit some current exhibition recommended to me by a friend.

My favorite places to visit here in New York are cutting edge neighborhoods, like Red Hook and Bushwick, in Brooklyn. I enjoy seeing the spread of new galleries on the Lower East Side. I check out what’s going on at MoMA PS1, in Long Island City, Queens, where there are always excellent exhibitions of national and international artists. The New Museum and the Brooklyn Museum also have good shows. Outside of city, I recommend that everyone go to DIA:Beacon, a great place to enjoy the works of Dan Flavin and Sol Lewitt.
